Rail Crossing
Donegan Civil Engineering undertook this specialist tunnelling sub-contract for Daniel Contractors on a United Utilities scheme.
The scope of the works included the construction of the new Hackthorpe pumping station which was a 6.00m diameter segmental shaft underpinned in hard sandstone to approx 10m depth.
After this a 6.00m diameter drive shaft and a 4.00m reception shaft, both approx 8m deep, were constructed on either side of one of the countries busiest railway lines the West Coast Mainline.
On completion of the shafts a 1500mm internal diameter pipejack approx 40m length was carried out beneath the railway line using an open-face backacter through boulder clay.
During the crossing Donegan operatives double shifted the drive and track level monitoring was carried out by Network Rail.
