UPPERPASSMONDS ROAD, ROCHDALE
The scheme is being carried out on behalf of Balfour Beatty, for United Utilities.
It involves the sinking of a 10.30m diameter segmental shaft, together with approximately 200m of pipework and associated manholes within the highway. The scheme also includes some 50m of augerboring.
BRUNSWICK ROAD, ALTRINCHAM
This £1.5M project is being carried out for a major client of ours, Balfour Beatty, on behalf of United Utilities. The project is a flood prevention contract, and the photographs show the construction of a 15.00m diameter shaft which will act as a storage tank in times of heavy rainfall.
You will note that the upper part of the shaft is supported by pre-driven steel sheet piles. This method was employed due to the anticipated unstable ground conditions within the top 9.00m depth of the shaft.
DARWEN UID
This £3.5M project is being carried out direct for United Utilities. The photographs show the construction of a 15.00m diameter shaft which will act as a detention tank. Closer inspection will identify piled pit excavations, within which reinforced concrete structures and chambers are being constructed. A reinforced concrete "outfall structure" has also been built within the embankment of the river.
